Just when you thought you couldn’t love it anymore, Violetta comes to the farm. This is the farm’s new food truck. Currently serving breakfast, this is the hottest new breakfast spot in town. The truck is fondly named Violetta – a MOGLO employee’s grandmother’s name. It’s great to have such a sweet name associated with the truck at the farm.

Why a food truck (it’s more like a food wagon)? Well there are so many reasons. One is to provide breakfast for the early morning risers – the farmers, the bikers, tradespeople and more. There are not a lot of options at 6:00 am for breakfast on the Island. This is a great way to offer breakfast, outside of the market, with parking too. It is also a very special time to be at Morning Glory. You can see farmers bringing freshly picked items from the fields – veggies, fruits, eggs, flowers. There is a quiet to this time, a different energy from the flurry of later in the day.

Enjoying Morning Glory Farm Breakfast by the Farm Stand

There is something so welcoming about getting breakfast from the truck and enjoying among the herbs and flowers outside of the farm stand itself. It’s relaxing and different from any other breakfast spot on the Island. Can’t you see yourself in the Adirondack chairs in the picture?

The Chef

Meet Canieka Fleming, the food truck head chef. Hailing from D.C., she is a private chef to the stars, has her own catering business and is now part of the Morning Glory team. Cenieka likes to be busy! She had brought some Southern flair with her to the farm including her signature Shrimp & Grits. This is a dish to try! The grits are so creamy and there is so much flavor! It is scrumptious, and while I never thought I would have this for breakfast but I would have it again and again! This has become a staple for regulars.

Another favorite are the doughnuts. Apparently, they are delicious as well and people come just for those. Sadly there were non available when I went – a little late to the game that day. In addition to the Shrimp & Grits, I also had the Farmer’s Daughter – this was so good too! The MOGLO mushrooms were the star of the sandwich here.

In addition to the fabulous sandwiches, don’t forget about the baked goods! Canieka had mentioned that they have some of the best biscuits and boy do they – mine was still warm when I ate it – I even forgot to get a good bio-worthy photo. Baker, Theresa Kirkpatick has quite the talent with her baking skills, and really helps make Morning Glory Farm a staple in so many Island homes. I know that the zucchini bread can often be found in our kitchen.

One of the team members in the truck, Mairead (Gaelic for Margret) is the now who came up with the Farmer’s Daughter. She is also working on other vegan and gluten free options. The crew in the truck really works together. Listening and helping each other – serving up incredible food made with the freshest ingredients around most of which are literally fresh off the farm.

The Morning Glory Food Truck is a collaborative team, working together to great delicious food and honor the ethos of the the farm. The focus is family, food, and happiness. It is a way to connect with what people want. It is a way to grow the farm’s offerings in a way that is in character with the farm. Someday, the team would like to have the food truck offer lunch as well and be available year round. So, we will have to see how things go, and keep an eye out on developments. However until then, enjoy breakfast at Morning Glory often and all Summer long!

PRO TIP: Don’t forget a hashbrown!
