Sitting on a private 20-acre chop bordered by Vineyard Sound and Lake Tashmoo, this storied Waterfront Estate is comprised of a Main House, two Beach Houses, two Beach Pavilion Bedrooms, a Cottage, Pool and Spa, Tennis Court, plus a mile of private shoreline, including 2000-feet of sandy beach. But that doesn’t begin to describe and capture the exclusive grandeur of the Chip Chop experience.

The Chip Chop Estate has a rich Vineyard history. It was originally built in the 1940's by legendary Broadway star Katherine Cornell. Over the years, Chip Chop has played host to a wide array of prominent figures from the worlds of film, television, theater, literature, and politics. The new owner is continuing that legacy with renovations and ongoing updates throughout much of the compound, and has now made it available as an ultra-luxe waterfront vacation rental.

At the eastern end of the property, toward Lake Tashmoo, sits the 2-bedroom Main House and its grand indoor-outdoor entertaining wing and patios, the two detached 1-bedroom Beach Pavilions, plus an older, separate 2-bedroom Cottage. The Pool and Pool Cabana, plus the Har Tru tennis court, are located in the middle of the Chip Chop Estate, and the two Beach Houses sit by themselves on the western end of the property. The East Beach House has 1-bedroom, and the West Beach House sleeps four.

The Main House Great Room makes a statement. It has vaulted ceilings, vintage beams, panels and woodwork, several seating and entertaining areas, and large retractable glass doors on both sides of the space. The doors on the ocean-facing side open to a large outdoor deck with dining table. A large glass wrapped entryway is the connector back to the rest of the Main House.

The light-filled Chef's Kitchen is centered around a large prep island/breakfast bar. The Kitchen has commercial appliances, stone counters, and water views from most locations. French doors open out to a brick patio with outdoor dining and sweeping water views. There is also a formal Dining Room plus a Lounge/Bar Room with rich vintage wood paneling, as well as several other gathering and hangout spaces.

There are two Primary Bedrooms. One of the first floor and one on the second. Both enjoy views and private en suite Baths. Just off the western end of the Great Room is a large stone patio and the two Pavilions. Each is nicely styled and has 1-bedroom and 1-bath. Ocean Pavilion faces Vineyard Sound, while Pond Pavilion faces the Lake Tashmoo side of the property.

A winding boardwalk leads over to the pool and tennis area. The heated pool has a large deck surround with multiple sitting and sun lounging areas, including a covered area in the Cabana. The hot tub spa has its own separate area on the deck. The Har-Tru tennis court is just behind the pool area toward Lake Tashmoo.

At their own private end of the estate sit the two Beach Houses. This is true beachfront living at its finest. Both of houses sit on the dunes overlooking Vineyard Sound with the beach right out front. West Beach House has a wraparound ocean-facing deck with multiple seating and sunning areas. The views from inside are just as stunning. There is a modern open layout with Kitchen and Living Area. The Primary Bedroom has an en suite bath with a door that opens to the outdoor shower. At the other end of the house is a separate room equipped with a sleeper sofa and a second private bath. East Beach House also enjoys sweeping water views throughout its open Living, Dining, and Kitchen Areas, as well as the Bedroom.

The Estate's two other bedrooms are located in the Cottage. It is an older, separate building on the Main House end of the compound. It has a small Kitchen with open Living/Dining Area that open out to deck, plus the two Bedrooms and a shared Bath.

Chip Chop is the ultimate island getaway experience. Literally and figuratively, a private oasis at the end of the road. There is nothing else quite like it on Martha's Vineyard.
