How To Break The Heat Wave Of Summer On Martha’s Vineyard – Wave Bar In Edgartown

Sometimes I am hesitant to write about some of my favorite places, but then again, it’s fun to share too. Wave Bar in Edgartown is one of those places. Nestled behind the Kelley House, with an entrance on Dock Street, this outdoor spot is a summer favorite of mine.

Wave may be small but it’s big on view. You can catch a glimpse of Edgartown harbor if you sit at a high top table by the entrance, you can lounge in the shade under the umbrellas, or sit at the bar, chat and make new friends.

It’s so nice to grab a cocktail at Wave. There’s music playing, usually a breeze because you’re by the water. Take a break from the heat of summer, relax and let Ryan the bartender — who is very serious when making your drinks, but has a lot of fun — make a little magic behind the bar. There is a fun new cocktail menu this year too.

Luckily, I was with a friend on this assignment. When you’re going to a fun outdoor bar on a sunny day, companionship is nice, and she too can work remotely.

Because it was a super hot day, a frozen beverage was in order to combat the heat. We got the Liquid Sunshine ($10). The name alone beckons you to order it. It has Deep Eddy Lemon Vodka, Amaretto and a splash of Pineapple juice. The color was bright and sunny and it was tasty. Summer in a glass!

Also, the Newes maybe closed (do to some needed repairs), but you can still grab a bite to eat. Marco Porlles is the Executive Chef at Kelley House and is preparing food at the Harbor View Hotel for Wave – creating some delicious light fare if you’re there for lunch or a bite. I didn’t eat on this particular visit, but if I were to, I would try the lobster roll with remoulade on brioche bun (only $15) or the dijon egg salad with tomato on wheat bread. I am a sucker for egg salad nowadays.

When I am at Wave, I always feel like I am on vacation. Perhaps it’s because it feels so removed from town but it’s really in the heart of it. Also, I can actually get work done there, and am usually quite happy. There’s wi-fi at the bar. A great reason to work and play simultaneously!

WaveAlso, there is live music at Wave Bar on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. You can check out the Wave Facebook page to see who’s playing. Last week, it was Pick Pocket. Who doesn’t love life music outside during the summer on Martha’s Vineyard!

Author’s Note: As soon as the Newes is open, we’ll let you know. There will be some changes to the dining area but most of the work has been done in the kitchen. Hoping for an August date.
