This new addition to the bear family of the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite is our seventh big, larger-than-life bear. Can you believe it? He/she joins six other bears that are bigger than me — Obie, Quinn, Edgar, Lambert, TisBeary, and Chappy, and the hundreds of other teddy bears that create the magic of the Teddy Bear Suite.
Our bear this year is quite unique. He/she is grey. Several of our Point B team members really fell for this sweet bear. I was hesitant on the color but once I saw its face and felt how good it was to hug the bear, I was too was enamored. Also, the color reminds me of foggy, cool days on the island, when being surrounded by something warm and comforting is a good thing.
I can’t wait to see what name this grey bear end up with. Just write your idea below in the comments box, on our Point B Facebook page or email us. We’ll have a full week of voting. The person who suggests the winning name, will win five raffle tickets for the chance to win this bear’s twin to call your own. How you may ask? Details to come in the next blog.
Last year, Quinn was the clear winner. Some other favorites were Mr. Pease, Squibby, Moshie, Tashmoo, Latte, Martha, and Lucy (Vincent). For this bear, I sort of like Katama, because it’s often foggy there. I like Moshie too, since the same is true for this up-island gem. However, it’s all up to you.
This is such an exciting time for us at Point B Realty! Annie Sylvia had a great time with this bear assisting her at the Point B Office in Edgartown. We can’t wait to see what you choose for the bear this year. Will we keep with the island related names as the theme? And because this event is such a favorite among little ones, be sure to ask them!
Where will you be able to see this bear and its friends? Well, for the third year, the teddy bears will call the Captain Collins Cottage #20 at the Harbor View Hotel their home. We’re happy to welcome back the Captain’s Cottage as our special venue. It truly becomes a magical place, filled with the splendor of the season, not to mention hundreds of teddy bears!

The Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite has established itself as an important fundraiser for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club. Over the past six years, with your help, this amazing event has raised $85,000 for the Club
For the second year, we are raising money for the club’s Healthy Happy Kids, H2K, which is a program that offers free food to Club members. This new initiative has had a dramatic impact on so many Island children, who are food insecure click here for one family’s story.
How does the MVTBS raise the money? Inside the suite, there is a box for monetary donations, and while entry is free for everyone, there is a suggested donation is $5 but we hope people are generous. Every dollar given goes directly to the program. We also reach out to the community, our summer vacation renters and landlords, island businesses, and others for donations.
There is an amazing raffle too which we hold in the lobby of the Harbor View Hotel. This year’s raffle includes an incredible piece of wampum jewelry from Littlest Fish, a Martha’s Vineyard print from Lure Fish, and of course our Island Restaurant Package, where you have the chance to win gift certificates from 20 Island restaurants — ranging in value from $25 – $75 each. More to come on this awesomeness later.
Also, Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite founders, and owners of Point B Realty, Wendy Harman and Win Baker, have underwritten this fundraiser every year, as well as set up the Teddy Bear Suite website with its online donation capabilities. Our friends at the Harbor View Hotel have been wonderful partners helping make it all possible with their beautiful Captain’s Cottages.
