Though I was just at Not Your Sugar Mamas in August because of their new cafe opening in Vineyard Haven, I am back. Not for another amazing and healthy chocolate treat or Dandelion Latte, but for lunch.
Not Your Sugar Mamas recently began serving lunch at their organic cafe. Their kitchen I should mention is certified organic, gluten free, and vegan – perfect for people with allergies and lifestyle needs.
Anyhow, back to the food – Not Your Sugar Mamas currently has a small lunch menu. The NYSM founders, Ky Keenan and Bennett Coffey had so many people ask for food, and since they are at a good place with their chocolate, it seemed like perfect time.
Each day from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., you’ll find a soup special, which was kale and white bean on the day I went, a Red Dahl soup, which is a healthy red lentil soup full of healthy ingredients, a paleo flatbread – gluten free, salads and a Mexican Rice Bowl.
Though the menu is not big, the food is powerful. Everything is good for you, aimed at fueling your body for feeling good. You just walk in, make a choice and pow – you’re eating something vegan, gluten free, and dairy free. It makes being healthy so easy, and some of us need that.
Yes, there will be those burger eating, chicken caesar wrap eating folks that might night favor such a menu, but for a busy mom on the go whose not always as good to herself as she should be – I love this.
I got the Mexican Rice bowl. I am a sucker for beans and rice. Throw in guacamole and get this, cashew sour cream, and I am sold. Yes, it is served with a side of cashew sour cream, remember things are dairy free. I really liked the sour cream – it was a little sweeter and lighter than sour cream. Here’s a recipe I found, incase you were curious like me, click here.
I had a little sample of the freshly made kale and white bean – simple, flavorful, good for you. You can’t go wrong on these chilly days with a good soup, especially one that is full of all natural, healthy ingredients.
Since I was at Not Your Sugar Mamas, I had to get dessert too. Well, more of a power treat since it’s chocolate that is good for you. I opted for a Salted Caramel and a KitKat truffle – both were delicious and a nice addition of a sweet treat without the guilt.
Just to let you know that the Mexican Bowl was so filling – I couldn’t even finish it. I feel like I’m set for the night – amazing what good stuff can do for you.
Not Your Sugar Mamas is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. However, on Wednesdays and Thursday, the cafe is open until 7:30 p.m. Why you may wonder? Well Ky and Bennett’s lunches have been so well received that they have been asked to do dinners too.
For now it’s just the two nights, but hopefully that will grow. If you sign up for their email list, you can find out what’s for dinner and pre-order. Just stop and grab, good to go. Effortless healthy eating! You can also just walk in for dinner. Think beautiful butternut squash lasagna, paleo pizzas and more!
There’s three tables in the organic cafe. You can enjoy your chocolates, lunch or even dinner right there. When I stopped by, Ky and Bennett were busy working when they could on their Not Your Sugar Mamas cookbook which is coming out in 2018. Island author Sarah Waldman and noted photographer Elizabeth Cecil. What a dynamic group of women working together – you know the end product is going to be amazing.
Also noteworthy is that Ky and Bennett are working on adding a pumpkin spice latter and pumpkin smoothie to their drinks board. I can’t wait to try that latte! Stay tuned. Don’t forget to try their new chocolate – Cookies & Cream too!
