Beachfront Rentals: Does Martha’s Vineyard Have Beach Homes? Some

It’s one of the most common Martha’s Vineyard rental requests we get at Point B Realty: We’d like a house right on the beach.

While beachfront homes and rentals are common in other coastal parts of the country, such as Florida or the Carolinas, true beachfront homes are not a common rental on the Vineyard, despite the fact that much of Martha’s Vineyard is ringed by miles of sandy beaches.

Waterfront But Not ‘On The Beach’

While there are lots of Vineyard rentals with water views or waterfront homes on the shores of Edgartown Harbor, Vineyard Haven Harbor,  or some of the large Ponds, like the Tisbury Great Pond, or Menemsha Pond in Chilmark, rental homes where the sand and surf are at your back door are not common.

There is one community however, where true beachfront living is the norm. On the north shore of the Island in Vineyard Haven, there is a barrier beach that separates Lake Tashmoo from Vineyard Sound, and it is lined with beachfront rentals from two bedroom cottages to five bedroom compounds with guest house. They all sit directly on the beach with sweeping water views of Lake Tashmoo toward the east and Vineyard Sound toward the west.
