Dilly’s Taqueria On Martha’s Vineyard And Falmouth

I remember when I wrote about Dilly’s Taqueria in 2018 after its first summer on Martha’s Vineyard. First, the name Dilly’s, named for owners Adam and Guinevere Rebello’s daughter, Dillon, was adorable, and second, the food was really fresh and flavorful. Fast forward to 2021 and a lot has changed for this family-run Mexican-American eatery.

When Dilly’s lost its space on Circuit Avenue, it was a hard blow, and customers were really disappointed. It was a tough time, but Adam had an idea for a Dilly’s Pop-Up at the Ritz for the month of December in 2019. It was a huge success for both Dilly’s and The Ritz.

Adam got to thinking, tacos and a dive bar — what a great match. Dilly’s at The Ritz was born, and it has been good ever since, even during COVID. Dilly’s has a great following for take-out, and The Ritz, when at capacity has about 50 seats for dining. Currently, there is social distance dining and plastic dividers.

I agree with Adam. Tacos and dive bars are a good combo. It’s great to be able to get lunch or dinner and have a cocktail that pairs perfectly with your meal. I stopped by a sunny Wednesday afternoon to talk and have lunch with Adam to learn more about Dilly’s happenings.

If you haven’t eaten at Dilly’s it’s definitely a fun experience. It’s food you customize. First, you choose your base — tacos, burritos, rice bowl or quesadilla. Step two, choose your filling — roasted veggies, blacked mahi-mahi, pollo or carne asada, pulled pork, or eggs. So many yummy options.

Then it’s onto toppings — beans, rice, cheese, salsa, sauce, and then to make it even more custom, you can add other toppings like housemade pickled onions or bacon and more. You can literally make hundreds of combinations. It’s amazing!

My custom rice bowl – so many things I like!

I had a rice bowl with roasted veggies (corn, Brussel kale slaw, mushrooms, sweet potatoes), black beans, queso fresco, sour cream, sriracha aioli with guac! Holy guacamole was it delicious! Full of color and flavor and it felt like I was eating something healthy (relatively). With veggies that good, I have to go back for the carne asada and pollo!

You can also get nachos, chips and salsa, empanadas, Mexican Street Corn, and churro bites for apps or just to munch on. If you are not a fan of any of this, no problem! You can get the Ritz Burger which comes with fries or just fries themselves! So many great options which can work since you need to order food to have drinks at The Ritz.

In the kitchen at Dilly’s it’s a family affair. You will find Adam’s brother
Tim Rebello or Callie Jackson – who has been with Dilly’s since opening day. With such a strong kitchen team, Adam has been able to help get Dilly’s Falmouth ready.

Speaking of drinks, The Ritz is in the process of creating its new cocktail menu which includes a couple that work well with Dilly’s. Of course you can get a margarita, or how about a Michelada (a Mexican Bloody Mary), or what I had (yet to be named) – jalapeño tequila, Aperol, and soda water. I am on a spicy kick and Sofia the bartender made it perfectly!

Dilly’s Taqueria On Martha’s Vineyard And Falmouth – Dilly’s Opens In Falmouth

Adam and Guinevere have been looking for a Falmouth location to open Dilly’s. With housing and owning a restaurant being such a challenge on Martha’s Vineyard, they wanted to create another opportunity. Adam’s heart is really in running Dilly’s. It is his passion in addition to the love of his family.

He found the perfect place. Ironically enough, it’s where Parkside Market, Waterside Market’s sister restaurant was. It’s right across the park, perfect for those who want to do takeout and picnic there. Though they will not be serving alcohol at Dilly’s Falmouth, they hope to add it in 2022. Right now, Adam’s big focus is on making the food consistent with that of Dilly’s at The Ritz

Currently, Dilly’s at The Ritz is open for lunch and late night Tuesday thru Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday. Dilly’s Taqueria 281 Main Street, Falmouth will hopefully open May 25th. You can get Dilly’s on and off-Island — the best of both worlds!

We wish the Rebello family continued success with Dilly’s – both on Martha’s Vineyard and in Falmouth! Also, we have to mention that the Dilly’s logo is so fun! It’s whimsical with a nod to the island! Visit Dillystaqueria.com for more.
