EDGARTOWN – The holiday-inspired Teddy Bear Suite fundraiser for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club exceeded its first year goal and raised more than $3,000. The new Martha’s Vineyard fundraiser was organized by Point B Realty and hosted by the Harbor View Hotel. The Suite opened its doors during Christmas in Edgartown and wrapped up this past weekend.
All the money raised goes to support the MV Boys & Girls Club “Power Hour,” the educational part of the Club’s popular After School Program, which is attended by several hundred island children each year.
“The money raised will help us continue to enhance the educational program for our young learners,” said Peter Lambos, Executive Director of the MV Boys & Girls Club. “Kids attending the After School Program pay just $20 for the entire school year, where in addition to the Power Hour, they have access to activities in our Gym, Art Studio, Games Room, and Computer Technology Lab.”
Original Fundraising Goal Easily Exceeded
The initial fundraising goal was $2,500 but donations rapidly grew to more than $3,000, with the combination of a raffle, online and in-person donations at The Teddy Bear Suite.
Hundreds of people visited the festive, holiday-decorated suite which featured dozens of bears in a variety of poses and settings from reading to sleeping and sledding.
“The Teddy Bear Suite really brought out the kid in so many of our visitors,” said Wendy Harman, Owner/Broker of Point B Realty, who hatched the idea for the fundraiser. “We’ve seen so many touching family pictures with the bears — it reminds you of the real magic of the holidays.”
With the success of The Teddy Bear Suite, Harman said she plans to make the Teddy Bear Suite an annual fundraising event. Online donations can still be made to support the Teddy Bear Suite fund.
