There might have been some grumblings when word hit the street that another ice cream shop was opening on Circuit Avenue but this one is different. For starters, it’s not ice cream.
Introducing Rosie’s Frozen Yogurt. Rosie’s is owned by Steve and Sindy Steinberg. This is their third location, adding to their Cos Cob and Old Greewich stores, both in Connecticut. The name comes from the nick name Steve has for his wife.
Retiring from a career in insurance (Steve) and a preschool teacher (Sindy), they had a feeling that they wouldn’t be able to sit still for long. A couple years into retirement, they opened their first Rosie’s and loved having a shop that ended up being a big part of their local community.
Then came their second and now third, here on Martha’s Vineyard, where they have a home and are part of a community they love.
Rosie’s Frozen Yogurt
Why is it different? Well, for starters, it’s self serve. Just grab a cup and let your creative juices flows. Step one – choose your yogurt base. There are eight flavors, plus four twist flavors to choose from.
When we went — had to take the kiddos on this assignment — there were so many yummy ones to choose from, cotton candy, coffee, cookies and cream, vanilla, salted carmel popcorn, and more. You can even have several different base flavors. You can go as big or as little as you want.
Then, it’s on to the toppings! There are over 30 toppings to choose from. You can be as healthy or as naughty as you want. Toppings range from gummy bears to marshmallows to Butterfingers to fresh strawberries, sunflower seeds, blueberries and more.
After your yogurt and toppings, you can then add sauces. Caramel, hot fudge (yes it’s served warm), butterscotch and more. And last but not least, whipped cream!
Your custom yogurt creations are then weighed and paid for and then you can savor all your hard work.
My kids loved Rosie’s. Having the ability to choose their flavors and their own toppings, even putting them on themselves, it was the best thing of the day. I even heard my daughter say that it was about 10% better than getting ice cream. In other words, it was the bee’s knees.
My son’s creation, cookies and cream yogurt, coconut flakes, marshmallows, caramel sauce, mini nonpareils, then after topped with whipped cream (not in pic). He was beyond ecstatic and proud too!
Whether you’re a yogurt fan (super creamy) or an ice cream fan, definitely give Rosie’s a try next time you’re in Oak Bluffs, and savor your own froyo combination.

Hi – I write stories about Island happenings, new stores, restaurants and other fun things. Don’t know all the specifics about these places. Your best chance would be to reach out to Rosie’s – through Facebook or their website.
Good Luck and thanks for reading the blog.
Best,
