The 5th Annual Pink and Green weekend has raised the bar. What started out as a way to help generate business and excitement during the shoulder season in Edgartown has become an iconic event that offers so much more.
With three days packed full of fun on Mother’s Day weekend, it’s tough to decide what to do. So, here are my Top 5 Picks – which might make it a little easier for you to decide what to add to your social calendar this weekend.
Horsing Around
It turns out that Pink and Green weekend is the same weekend as the Kentucky Derby. For anyone who knows me, I have been dying for there to be a huge Kentucky Derby party on the Island, and now there is.
The Harbor View Hotel is hosting this party, the main event of Pink & Green Weekend, which celebrates “the most exciting two minutes in sports.” For this event, which begins at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7th, there are prizes for the best dressed guest, and the guest with the best hat. Tickets are $30.
When you’re not glued to the TV, you can enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres, including such fun-themed bites as the Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders, Chicken and Waffle Finger Foods, Bourbon Meatballs, Cucumber sandwiches and more. Don’t forget to save room for desserts which include cupcakes with Rose Bud Icing!
There will also be lawn games to keep you and your friends entertained. I can only imagine the laughs surrounding these, especially dressed to impress, and after a couple of bartender, Ben Connelly’s well crafted Mint Juleps! Don’t forget to check out the raffle which benefits one of our favorite organizations, the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club.
Run For A Cause
Pink & Green is more than just fun activities, well this is actually fun too. Kick off your Saturday morning at the Right Fork in Katama for the first annual Run Breast Cancer Out of Town 5k. You can register beforehand at Rosewater ($20) or at the event for $25.
Note this is a fun run and walk, which means that you can bring the whole family, but be sure to dress in pink and green. This is a great way to support a great cause, that has affected so many amazing women. Also, it’s a good way to add a little balance after some Friday night or pre-Saturday night shenanigans.
Drink Pink…..and Green
I have to lump this all into one event, since I am doing my top 5. I love that there is a Pink and Green Cocktail Contest. Bars, restaurants, and specialty shops all over town will be participating!
Start at Sharky’s (cranberry mojito), then make your way down Main Street to Lucky Hank’s, then Atria, which is celebrating its opening night, then head downtown to some of your other favorites, like Rockfish, Isola, Alchemy, Atlantic, and Chesca’s! There’s a complete list on the Edgartown Board of Trade website.
The contest takes place over Friday and Saturday nights, so no need to try all the drinks at once. Once you’ve tried 6 or more, fill out your name and email on the brochure, drop it off at In The Pink and you’ll be entered to win a prize. Wonder what it is. This is defitnely my type of contest.
Oh and I have to mention that you can get a complimentary ride from Stagecoach Taxi on Friday night — no frustrating parking concerns! The complementary shuttle will run between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. from Upper to Lower Main Street.
Big Day For Brunch
Part of the weekend celebrations include a number of brunch options for Mother’s Day. I am a huge fan of brunch and this is one day that mom definitely not be in the kitchen.
Brunch, brunch, and more brunch! You can enjoy a leisurely Sunday at a number of places, Lucky Hank’s, the Harbor View Hotel, The Grill on Main and Among the Flowers! With so many delicious choices, how can you not add brunch to your week activities.
For the Dogs
For an added level of cuteness, you can enter or attend the 4th Annual Pink & Green Dog Show on Saturday, May 7th, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Here you are guaranteed to laugh! Our own Trish Lyman is one of the organizers. She’ll be there. Come as you are or bring your four-legged friend. There are prizes to be won, and of course, pink & green accessories are encouraged.
This event is a benefit for the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard. There will be gourmet treats and raffle items at the event. All proceeds go to the shelter
These are just five events from a weekend filled with activities for the whole family! Of course, don’t forget all the great shopping, and specials in the stores, and 2nd Annual Pink & Green Kid’s Parade. You’ll find a complete list of activites on the Edgartown Board of Trade’s website, click here for all the info.
