During these grey months, Rockfish knows how to entice people to come out. On Thursday and Friday nights from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the staff serve free passed apps in the first floor bar (yes only the first floor).

Rockfish offered this last year as well, but I was skeptical. Free apps are usually not the best apps, but that is not the case here.

Free Passed Apps Rockfish Restaurant & Bar Martha's VineyardMy friend Cameron and I sat right at the corner of the bar where Kevin was serving up some great cocktails, a dirty martini for me since it was a girl’s night out. Cameron opted for one of my favs, the Bubbly Pear Martini, made with gin, St. Germaine and a splash of bubbly.

Being at the corner, we were able to say hi to friends as they came into the restaurant, which was fun, and we had a direct view of our new friend Ben who was serving up the apps.

Little Bites of Heaven

When the food came out, I was super impressed. There was not one but maybe 6 or 7 different bites that came out at different times. We’re not talking about some frozen egg rolls, but apps from the Rockfish menu, and some where a part of dinner entrees.

How about little beet parmesan risotto bites? Well, I don’t like beets but a lot of people do. I was more excited about the truffle mac & cheese, yes to seconds please! Chef Craig Decker definitely offered up some great little dishes for us all.

There was even dessert, little brownie bites. I did not have any, because I was full. However, guest, Linley Dolby enjoyed one or two. As an expecting mom, a sweet treat is always welcome. A big congrats to her and her husband Dave! See all the fun things you discover at “appy hour” in Edgartown!

By 7:00 p.m. it was such a fun scene, upstairs and downstairs. The drinks were flowing, good music playing, and so many people that I knew were out. I felt like it was the Island’s Cheers. Perhaps the long weekend had induced some sort of good vibe in Edgartown or maybe that’s how it is every Friday. I don’t know but I loved it.

I think soon I will need to go back and have dinner because the menu has a number of  things that caught my eye. I will need to have the Buffalo Cauliflower again soon, and the Littlenecks with house rolled fettuccine is probably delicious. I can’t tell you last time I had a good linguini with clam sauce which was a favorite of mine when I was a kid.

Rockfish is staying open for the season. You can stop by for dinner Wednesday thru Saturday, starting at 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday, doors open at noon. The app special is Thursday and Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Whatever night you visit Rockfish, I think you’ll have a great time. With the food we sampled and the great atmosphere, it was a little slice of heaven in January on Martha’s Vineyard.
