For three magical days, Suite 201 at the Harbor View Hotel was transformed into the spectacular Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite. This tradition, now a mainstay in Christmas in Edgartown, delighted hundreds of families and children of all ages.
Everyone who walked through the door was met by teddy bears of all shapes and sizes, in rooms decorated with holiday cheer. There was not one person who did not smile when they saw it all.
The sheer joy of the children who visited was truly the most magical part for most of us Point B Realty team members who were at the suite all weekend long.
Having three larger-than-life bears, Edagr, Chappy, and TisBeary really added to the fun of the three room suite. The hundreds of other bears throughout the rooms also brought a lot of happiness to people of all ages, and of course, our “spa bears” were a a big hit with everyone.
Since this is our third year doing the Teddy Bear Suite, we’ve gotten to watch children as they grow. Some children who were barely sitting up last year, were now moving from bear to bear offering the biggest hugs.
Some children now have siblings with them. Being a part of so many family’s holiday tradition is such an amazing experience.
To add to the magic, we partnered with the Island Theatre Workshop for Teddy Bear Story Hour with Mrs. Claus on Saturday after the Christmas parade, where all three of our big bears enjoyed being in the parade in their MINI Coopers.
This wonderful addition which took place in the Menemsha room at the hotel, was the perfect way to help folks warm up after the parade. Cookies and cocoa and teddy bear stories told by Mrs. Claus – pretty amazing combination. Then off to the Teddy Bear Suite.
On Sunday, noted Island Photographer David Welch was in the Teddy Bear Suite to take professional pictures of families. With perfect lighting, an enchanting holiday backdrop filled with teddy bears, David was able to capture people’s holiday memories perfectly.
It truly is a magical event. Three wonderful days of holiday joy. The pictures offer a small look into the wonder of it all. However, there was even more good being done over the weekend.
Through the Teddy Bear Suite, our amazing raffle items that were featured in the hotel lobby, pictures with David Welch Photography and our online donation page on our new Teddy Bear suite fundraiser website, www.mvteddybearsuite.com, we have been able to raise $8,500 so far, for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club After School Program.
We are thankful to all those who have donated and continue to support the Boys & Girls Club.
Help Us Make Our Goal
$8,500 is a lot of money for this important program that serves hundreds of Island families, but we are yet to reach our goal of $10,000. To help make this goal, people will have the opportunity to continue to donate to the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite Fundraiser. Click here to make a donation.
Also, Peter Lambos, Executive Director at the Boys & Girls Clubs is continuing to sell raffle tickets for the signed, championship 2012-2013 Boston Bruins Jersey through the Boys & Girls website. Signed by Zdeno Chára, Tuukka Rask, Milan Lucic, and the rest of the 2012-13 Eastern Conference Championship team.
The jersey, by the way, is donated by the owners of the Boston Bruins, who have a house here on the Vineyard. It is certified authentic by the Boston Bruins Foundation. This is the most perfect gift for your hockey fan!
Drawing for the Bruins Jersey will be held on December 23rd. The winner doesn’t have to be present or on-Island to win as the winner will be notified by phone. I can’t wait to see who wins this. I know so many people who put this on their Christmas wish list, since finding out about it. We’ll have the winner of the raffle on our Facebook Page next week. Click here to buy a chance to win the Bruins Jersey.
We will announce the winners of our other two raffle items on Wednesday. And they’re pretty cool too. The Ultimate Day of Pampering Spa Package and the Martha’s Vineyard Restaurant Experience (with gift certificates to 15 of the top Island restaurants).
