Martha’s Vineyard Dressed Up – An Evening Of Local Fashion & Design

martha's vineyard fashion week

Though I’ve written a number of blogs about Martha’s Vineyard Fashion Week over the years, this is the first time I’ve attended one of the events. I was really inspired by this year’s line-up for the runway on Saturday night’s event, An Extraordinary Night of Fashion.

Celebrating fashion in this way is definitely social, and what better reason to make an event of it. I met a group of friends at MV Chowder Co. for martinis. A chic cocktail for a chic evening — in my mind anyway.

Of course she looked fabulous and was all smiles as we got our tickets. We were V.I.P. which were only $40, and we got great seats.

Dreamland had truly been turned into a runway. DJ Pretty Ninja was spinning, lights were going, people were dressed to impress, and there was a lot of excitement in the air.

Also, a new addition made for some silly fun. David Welch Photography had a photo “booth” set up with props.

We had a lot of fun with it, and I think others did too. We may not have been walking down the runway, but we strutted our stuff a bit.

While mingling and sipping on drinks, you could do a little shopping. There were some fun vendors there with their handmade goods, including one of my favorites, Tanya Rustigan and her collection, Trust. A nice surprise, it was fun to catch up and see what’s new.

Getting ready for the runway at Martha's Vineyard Fashion Week

When it was time for the fashion show, we went to our seats. I couldn’t believe the anticipation I felt. I was truly caught up in the experience.

The music, the lights, seeing the first model appear dressed in amazing clothes with gorgeous hair and make-up. I was mesmerized.

The models were tall and stunning wore the clothing so well. There was so much variety as far as designers and retail clothing went.

From casual to  couture, there was something for everyone’s style. And even if it wasn’t for you necessarily, it was still nice to see on the runway.

In this season’s show, there we saw NRO, Mikel Hunter from PikNik, Lauren Morgan, The Green Room, and Karen Trotier form Menagerie. Each had such a different style on the runway.

I really enjoyed Mikel Hunter’s runway collection. The pieces were eclectic and different. So far from the mainstream clothes of Banana Republic or J.Crew.

It’s fun to see how creative people can get with clothes that can be bought off the rack.

Of course his signature Neon Zinn necklaces, by Seth Damm, were shown. These rope necklaces are super bold and transform any outfit into a statement outfit.

Simple & Chic

Lauren Morgan Spring/Summer 2015 At Martha's Vineyard Fashion Week

Lauren Morgan’s collection was even more amazing than I had imagined. The clothes were sophisticated, full of color and chic details.

There was this bright blue floor length dress with a coral lining that peeped through in the slits as the model walked that took my breath away. I wanted it. The dress made me get lost in my mind for a moment.

I felt as though, if was wearing that dress with a great pair of wedges (heels are not my friend anymore) I could be somewhere fabulous, strolling along a seaside town in Italy or France, and looking like  a million dollars.

I think that’s one of the best about fashion. Good design can take you away for a moment or two.

Oysters On a Neckline

Also, I really enjoyed one design in particular from Karen Trotier’s collection. Many of her pieces are really colorful and a little avant garde, but fun to look at.

However, she had this wedding dress that has oyster shells embellishment on the top. I love this dress.

I’ve seen it in a couple of magazines, and it was even more beautiful in person. The  way she used something so ordinary from the waters of Martha’s Vineyard to make something extraordinary and unique. I loved it.

Red Patagonia from Green Room At Martha's Vineyard Fashion Week

NRO and The Green Room also had some great pieces that came down the runway. It’s nice to know that you can walk into Island stores and get some great pieces for your wardrobe.

I have to say that I have never seen a red Patagonia fleece look so sexy. Thank you Green Room.

After the runway, we couldn’t stop talking about the clothes that topped our list of favorites. I think we all left feeling a little inspired, and impressed.

We were so energized that we actually felt compelled to continue the fun. Off to the Lampost to dance the rest of the night away — sorry no pictures to document that fun.

Martha’s Vineyard Fashion Week, what a fun way to celebrate fashion on our beautiful Island. From movies, to parties, to the runway, all to enjoy beautiful clothes and raise money for Angel Flight North East, I can’t wait to see the line-up for next year’s!

Swag bags from MVFW

Oh. I almost forgot to mention the great swag bags. Love that there was a Lemon & Line bracelet and all sorts of fun treats!
