The Changing Face Of Vineyard Haven – What’s New For The 2014 Season On Martha’s Vineyard

Main Street Vineyard Haven
Like Edgartown and Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven is experiencing a number of changes this season with its restaurants and shops.

Vineyard Haven Restaurant Changes

Nat's Nook MVSomething’s brewing in the space that used to be Che’s Lounge – Nat’s Nook will be opening June 9th. It will be serving coffee, crepes and more. I have to get the full scoop on this one!

Vineyard Haven Dinning Copper Wok Restaurant Martha's Vineyard

One of the most exciting additions to downtown is Copper Wok. It opened in March, and has been one of the most talked about restaurant happenings on Island since then.

Copper Wok is open for dinner from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday thru Sunday. Also, you might find it open on the weekends for lunch. Once it’s closer to Summer, it will have lunch and dinner seven days a week. Don’t forget that you can get take-out!

Mad Martha's Takes Over Cafe Moxie In Vineyard Haven

Sadly, Café Moxie is no more. The owners have sold it, and it will become a new Mad Martha’s. I bet the ice cream shop will be beautiful, but the change is bittersweet for me. I thought Cafe Moxie was going to be a big success, and help make Vineyard Haven more desirable as a dining destination.

However, Mad Martha’s moving from Union Street to Main Street is going to be good for the town. People will pack the shop, and who doesn’t love ice cream! Also, in the Fall, there are plans to have something in the Main Street space that will be selling food, dine and take out all year long. I can give a hint – there’s one in Oak Bluffs (year round) and in Edgartown (seasonally)

Le Grenier is in it's last season

The building that has been Le Grenier for over 34 years has been sold to a new owner. The word on the street is that it will remain Le Grenier for the Summer season but will be a different restaurant come 2015.

So, this is the year to enjoy Chef Jean DuPon’s French cuisine — including his delicious Escargots Bourguigon. As soon as more becomes public knowledge on the coming change, I’ll fill you in.

The Union Street building that Mad Martha’s used to occupy will be come another Fella’s. A hot spot in West Tisbury for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (depending on the season), this is going to be a great spot to grab a bite to eat. The location is perfect for getting something to eat while waiting for the ferry.

Fella's Vineyard Haven

When I go to the up-Island location of Fella’s, I love to get their Tarragon Chicken Salad sandwich. I’ve tried to replicate it at home with little success. When the new location opens, I’ll have to check it out.

Shopping In Vineyard Haven

Simply Soaps

Simply Soaps, a Bath Boutique has moved from Oak  Bluffs to Vineyard Haven. The shop, which is now next door to Mocha Motts, offers a variety of handmade goodies for your body.

I am a fan of Simply Soaps’ loofah soap and body butter. Handmade makes a difference. Owner, Beth Serusa works a little love into each item, and they’re pretty amazing.

A sunglass store will be in the location soon

Next to CB Stark on Main Street, you’ll soon find a new place to get a pair of sunglasses. I remember when I first moved to Martha’s Vineyard a decade ago, there was a sunglass store across the street from the Mansion House. I had gotten a great pair of Dolce & Gabannas there that I’ve since lost.

Anyhow, people love good sunglasses, and now you’ll be able to get a pair in Vineyard Haven.

Morrice Florist of Martha's Vineyard Morrice Florist on State Road has changed hands after 70 years. The new owners, Emily Coulter and her sister have bought the flower shop, and are creating a flower, wedding, special occasion one-stop shopping experience.

Emily is a wedding planner in addition to being a new store owner, and she is really talented and creative. The shop is currently undergoing a number of changes, and I can’t wait to write about it and share more about Emily and the new space. I sure hope they keep Tulip Tuesdays!

ONE Hot YogaKristin Hall and Anthony Estrella are bringing their yoga skills down-Island, which I know many people are pretty excited about, since both are very popular yogis. They are opening One Hot Yoga in the Woodland Center (next to Rise) May 15th.

I will warn you. I have been challenged by Kristin to try hot yoga with her. this should be interesting. It’s been over 15 years since I’ve tried hot yoga and hated it, but Kristin said it will be amazing. Stay tuned.

Also noteworthy, Free Bird Consignment (next to TisBerry) is closing. Jenni Bick Bookbinding has moved to West Tisbury. Le Roux Gourmet is now open. This is their second season, and the store’s filled with yummy specialty foods, including all of the flavored olive oils and vinegars.

Enjoy all your favorites and the new additions to Vineyard Haven. Let me know if I missed anything.
