Last week, my friend asked me if there was going to be anything to do when she came to Martha’s Vineyard in August with her family. She was nervous about not having all of her favorite things to do available. It’s a question we’re hearing a lot this year. Our proactive, you-can-still-have-lots- of-fun response is We Love MV: Enjoying Summer 2020! Our ultimate summer guide.
Martha’s Vineyard is the same great Island we know and love, with a few new twists thrown in this year. This is Summer reimagined, and part of our summer series We Love MV: Enjoying Summer Fun 2020.
We Love MV: Enjoying Summer 2020 – Dining In & Out & About
Currently, most restaurants are offering takeout, and many others have limited OUTSIDE and INSIDE DINING available. If you are looking to dine out, reservations and patience are key. For places taking reservations, the seating may be limited. I would definitely call, and call ahead in advance.
TAKEOUT has become quite the fun thing on the Island. In the beginning, I was a little uncertain about takeout, missing the restaurant scene. However, I have found that takeout can be amazing! It’s so easy to create your own picnic scene — on the beach, in a park, in your backyard. We’ve gotten creative and really enjoy takeout out.
There are even new restaurants/eateries that have opened for the Summer including Seaweeds in Oak Bluffs, Frankie’s Market and Salvatore’s in Vineyard Haven, and coming soon Juice By Sea, Stella Salumeria, and The Pawnee House all in Oak Bluffs.
In addition to restaurants, many of the Island’s caterers are offering gourmet meals delivered to your door. How about something like this as a special treat for summer vacation or to help celebrate a special occasion. Imagine having V. Jaime Hamlin at Home just for you? Or Premiere Chef Services’ amazing themed dinners?
There are lots of ways to enjoy the food you know and love on Martha’s Vineyard, just with a little extra planning.
We Love MV: Enjoying Summer 2020 – The Beaches
There is so much to do on Martha’s Vineyard. Towns and businesses have worked hard to make sure the Island is ready for Summer.
The BEACHES ARE OPEN! Some have limited parking and require wearing masks on public paths, but they are as always the perfect way to cool off on these hot summer days. Beach during the day, beach at night, the beach is often the best activity, and it’s easy to social distance. Don’t forget about paddle boarding, fishing, and kayaking too!
We Love MV: Enjoying Summer 2020 – Biking, Walking & Hiking
TRAILS are open for BIKING, WALKING, and HIKING which are all activities that people are enjoying even more than ever. There is a great App, Trails MV, that can help you navigate the extensive trails on Martha’s Vineyard. Get ready for some epic outdoor adventures and discoveries whether on foot or bike.
We Love MV: Enjoying Summer 2020 – Tennis & Golf
TENNIS Anyone? There is something about tennis in the summer, whether with friends or family. Farm Neck and Vineyard Family Tennis are open for tennis. Call for availability and complete safety guidelines.
And speaking of Farm Neck, don’t forget about golf as well. GOLFING is as popular ever. There may be fewer tee times in summer, but the courses are ready for a game. Also, keep an eye out for President Obama, as the former first family (now Katama homeowners) will most likely be here for the Summer. We saw them often in the fall and early winter on the island.
We Love MV: Enjoying Summer 2020 – Shopping
Let’s not forget about SHOPPING. Your favorite island stores are waiting for you, stocked with great summer finds. There are new shops to explore as well like Sea Legs and Juniper, both in Edgartown.
We Love MV: Enjoying Summer 2020 – Farmers’ Markets
The West Tisbury Farmers’ Market, is now underway in its new home at the Ag Hall (Wednesdays and Saturdays, 9 -12), and the Oak Bluffs Open Market (Sundays), are both great ways to enjoy island bounty. Enjoy many of your old favorites and find some new too!
We Love MV: Enjoying Summer 2020 – Special Activities On Martha’s Vineyard
If you are looking for something more to add to your Vineyard summer experience, perhaps we can help. A family paddleboard or kayak trip from Island Spirit Kayak is a great way to see the Island in a whole new way.
Fish with one of the Island’s best – like Tomahawk Charters, Kismet Outfitters, or My Brother Charters. You could learn to fly fish, or catch one to get all the likes on Instagram. Fishing can be a lot of fun in the waters surrounding the island.
Charter a boat or a sail. Contact Island Girl Excursions to explore someplace new like Tarpaulin Cove. Or go on a magical sail around Edgartown with Catboat Charters or the Magic Carpet. Seeing the Island from the water is sure to be a memorable experience.
We Love MV: Enjoying Summer 2020
